Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page

Following the postponement of this event in September last year as a mark of respect for Her Majesty the Queen, I am pleased to share the event will now take place on Saturday 1 April!!

I have been a Home-Start in Suffolk Volunteer for 3 years and I can think of nothing more important than the well-being of our families and young children.

Following completing the excellent training that Home-Start provides their volunteers, I have supported several local families by regular visits-or phone calls during the Pandemic. It has been wonderful to see the difference Home-Start support has made to these families.

Home-Start in Suffolk is the county's largest family support charity. They offer struggling families throughout Suffolk practical help and emotional support in a friendly, non-judgemental way through their army of over 280 volunteers. The families supported by Home-Start in Suffolk are facing a wide range of challenges including mental health issues, disability, physical health problems, poverty and domestic violence.

In the last 12 months the charity have worked with more than 900 families helping them navigate challenges, empowering them with the skills and confidence to raise their children to flourish. To continue to cope with the level of demand on the service it is vital that Home-Start in Suffolk continues to recruit new volunteers.

I wanted to raise funds to help Home-Start recruit and train new volunteers to ensure they are able to continue to cope with this unprecedented demand for support and as such my Readathon idea was formed.

As a member of the Woodbridge Rotary and as part of our annual fundraising efforts I have chosen to read 'Great Expectations' by Charles Dickens as the great novelist was an enthusiastic supporter of child welfare causes in the1850's.

I will be dressed in Victorian clothing and reading from 10am to 5pm in the Woodbridge Thoroughfare on Saturday  1st April 2023.

Do come along to see me!  And Please help me to raise funds recruit and to train more Home-Start in Suffolk volunteers!
