Story
Just over eight years ago, I ran my first marathon. One week prior, my stepmom Jane passed away from her 12-year fight with brain cancer.
That first marathon—and every marathon after—I run for her, think of her, wear a notable necklace that reads “26.2 for Jane”. She was in my life from my very first memories and was always a champion for my dreams. Sometimes, even as a writer, I can't find the right words to represent all that she was. Sometimes, no words are needed.
Marathon #10 this fall—London—will be no different. I will always be mindful of her, and for these miles, I’ve also partnered with Brain Research UK to raise $ for continued research.
Squeeze the people you care about. Smile at strangers. Speak up and out often, even through fear. And consider donating. :)
More about Brain Research UK: The charity's vision is of a world where everyone with a neurological condition lives better, longer. Brain Research UK has three current research priorities: brain tumours, brain and spinal cord injuries, and headaches and facial pain. The charity also funds projects in other neurological areas, such as epilepsy and dementia. Please join me in supporting Brain Research UK by sponsoring me on this challenge. I will be very grateful for any donations towards this cause, no matter how big or small. Thank you very much.
