Story
In January 2018, my family and I received a diagnosis that changed our lives forever. My Dad, Terence McGuigan, was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma Multiforme. It is a fast growing tumour that has no cure and has an average prognosis of less than a year. Despite this my dad fought as hard as he could and we made the most of the time we had left together.
I love my dad and the memory of him and the type of person he was will stay with me forever. There is so much I could say about my dad but ultimately he was a kind and generous man who would do anything for anybody. This is why I want to honour his memory by completing this challenge and raising money for this amazing charity.
Brain Tumour Research and the research it funds is at risk and any help you can give would be greatly appreciated, they cannot let all the progress and work over the past 10 years go to waste.Brain Tumour Research is uniquely focused on funding sustainable and long-term research into brain tumours at dedicated UK Research Centres. Your support will help us get closer to a cure for brain tumours. The Charity is building a network of brilliant researchers and developing the next generation of world-class experts in neuro-oncology. We're also influencing the Government and larger cancer charities to invest more nationally into this crucial area of medical research.
For the month of June, Courtney and I will complete 5K every day by either walking or running. Although we are separated by the Altlantic Ocean we will complete this together. Every day we will keep you updated with our challenge. We know this will be hard but nothing is as hard as the battle my dad fought for 10 months. He approached his illness with positivity and humour; and that is how we will approach this challenge. He was down to earth and fun-loving and would remind everybody to Keep it Real. To him that meant to be genuine, kind and honest. In these trying times, that is a message that needs to be remembered. So throughout this challenge we will #keepitreal.
