I have decided to run the London Landmarks half marathon next year in support of the National Brain Appeal. This charity supports all the hard work and research that many teams do across the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery where I was once a patient, 3 years ago to this day (5th Sep). The incredible team there have helped me through diagnosis, treatment and post-operative care. They continue to dedicate themselves to research in all areas of Brain related injury from Tumours and brain conditions to epilepsy and dementia.
I personally, wouldn’t be where I am today without the incredible support from the team of consultants, surgeons, nurses and staff at Queens Square NHNN. During covid'19 I underwent keyhole brain surgery to fenestrate a sizeable cyst that had been developing in my 4th ventricle from hydrocephalus. During an already, challenging time for both patients and hospital staff - the team at queens square were detrimental in my recovery and I’d love nothing more than to try and give back something to help continue the support for many people and families who have to face these challenging moments themselves, as well as supporting further research in areas such as dementia and Parkinson’s.
I understand times are incredibly tough at the moment but I’d appreciate any small amount you can give towards my fundraising goals! It’s also really important to me to raise awareness of brain injury, 1 in 3 of us are said to have some kind of neurological condition in our life-time yet it’s rarely discussed in mainstream media and often unnoticeable to friends and colleagues but hugely affects every aspect of our lives.
Thanks so much for reading and hopefully donating! I’ll be posting training updates on here as well as socials - thanks again for your support and see you at the finish line!! 🤍🤞🧠
