Khuluma provides social and mental health support for adolescents living with HIV in Pretoria, South Africa. Khuluma provides immediate, accessible, and safe support groups where adolescents can discuss any topic that they wish and receive advice.

Story

For many adolescents in South Africa, the experience of living with HIV is an isolating one. They might face stigma for their status, or be keeping it a secret out of fear or shame. They often lack a support network with whom they can share their worries, doubts and questions about HIV or other parts of their life. This is where Khuluma comes in. In 2013, The SHM Foundation started running peer-to-peer support groups, Khuluma, for HIV-positive adolescents. The adolescents are able to chat at any time and from anywhere, using their mobile phones, among each other but also with qualified facilitators, medical professionals and other support staff. Texting is a powerful way to provide immediate and accessible social and mental health support. This year we want to reach 50 more adolescents in rural areas of Pretoria but we need financial help to do that. Please promote this amazing program and donate to my campaign if you can.
