Story
Shortly after I was born, I was diagnosed with a rare cranio-facial condition called Craniosynostosis, where the two plates at the front of my skull, under my forehead, were fused prematurely together. Luckily, living in London, we had access to the life changing medical care of a team of doctors headed up by Mr Simon Eccles, an exceptional surgeon. At the age of 9 months old, I underwent a 6 hour operation which successfully corrected the craniosynostois and thankfully after recovery, I have gone on to live a full and normal life.
Sadly, some children in the world don't have access to this care and I hope to raise money for a charity that forever changes peoples lives. I will be running outside and on a treadmill and am attempting to complete 100 kilometres between now and my Bar Mitzvah (in the next 8 weeks), which is an ambitious target.
Facing the World (FTW) has pioneered a bold new approach to sustainable healthcare. Simon Eccles and his team travel far and wide to train surgeons to carry out their techniques which results in self-run centres of excellence in the countries where they work. This approach ensures that children born with disabling facial deformities can receive the surgery they need, and that these centres can be replicated both nationally and internationally. Facing The World aims to train a further 200 doctors over 5 years to achieve 40,000 surgeries. Our goal is to raise £3.5 million - will you help us?!
