Hi there!
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page!
My name is Ashen De Silva. This spring, I will be volunteering in Uganda for three months with the charity VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas), and will need your help to reach my fundraising target.
I will be based with a host family in Lira, whilst working with locals to implement programmes for youths in rural communities, so that they may gain the relevant and necessary skills required for employment, and therefore better livelihoods for themselves and their families. We will also be working with local and agricultural businesses, aswell as implementing micro-enterprise programs, so communities can grow and develop organically through their own means.
A person, young or old, should have an equal right to develop their talent and their ability and their motivation, to make something of themselves, regardless of where or what they were born into. The work we do may provide a smile on a face, a strengthened motivation within a person that lasts a lifetime. Or a even help them a step closer to the self-reliance they yearn for.
VSO believes in long term social and community development, collaborating through volunteers, both home and within the country.
The charity as a whole, work to:
TO FIGHT POVERTY SUPPORT EDUCATION DRIVE YOUTH EMPLOYMENT OPTIMISE HEALTH AWARENESS EMPOWER LOCAL BUSINESSES, SOCIAL ENTERPRISES AND AGRICULTURAL COOPERATIVES.
Looking to make a positive mark in the hearts and minds of the world's poorest communities. Money raised will go directly to the charity so that it can continue to not only fund the projects I will be involved in, but continue to support all VSO’s sustainable development projects, which benefit millions of rural people around the world every year.
Any contribution would help in making a difference to the lives of these people, however small.
My half-way deadline is 24th March. And my final deadline for fundraising is the 26th April!
Any donations from you would be very much appreciated to reach my goal!
Thank you for your support!
