Story

Sensory overload is a common problem in fibromyalgia. It's a symptom that can have a significant effect on your daily life and stop you from doing a lot of the things you enjoy.

Sensory overload can make you feel panicky, confused, and overwhelmed. It can result from a variety of things, and the triggers can vary from one of us to another.

It means that our bodies react strongly to all kinds of input–noise, bright or flashing lights, crowds of people, strong smells, a chaotic environment, or multiple things competing for your attention.

Rearchers believe another problem in the brains impairs your inhibition.

Inhibition helps your brain filter out things that are unimportant. When you answer the phone, it should help you ignore the television or your family's conversation. It should help you ignore a repetitious noise, like a loud beep. It should, after a short time, stop you from noticing the buzz of fluorescent lights.

However, the lack of inhibition means we can't tune those things out. Because of that, our senses bombard our brains with information, and our brains can't handle it all.

The result is that you can't focus your attention on things that are important. It becomes hard to think, so you may forget what you were doing or frequently lose your train of thought. It can also result in a panic attack, which can involve a pounding heart, sweating, trembling, dizziness, tingling, and fear. Later, you may have increased pain and/or fatigue. Panic attacks can sometimes lead to a major symptom flare.

Steph can not walk into a room that has Music on, its too much. She can turn music on once shes in a room, just can't walk into it.

Me and Steph love a cuddle at night, we are probably one of those annoying couples that actually fall asleep cuddling, (we roll away when asleep but if we wake up we cuddle back up 😂) last night however was a different story. Stephs fibro flare meant anything touching her hurt, a stomach tickle felt like razor blades, my arm felt like a dead weight. Waking up several times in the night to Steph crying in pain, you guys never see this side because she pushes through it. She tries to hide it from me, but sometimes she can't. This is why I'm raising awareness, at the moment there is no cure for Fibromyalgia, if we raise money we might be able to get a cure in the future.

This disease is so debilitating, people often think you're dramatising things, Fibromyalgia is a disease  that often leaves you isolated you lose people because sometimes you just can't get out of bed and have to constantly cancel plans.

Fibromyalgia is a recognised chronic condition of widespread pain and profound fatigue. A common illness with an est. prevalence of 2.9% - 4.7%. The pain tends to be felt as diffuse aching or burning, often described as head to toe. It may be worse at some times than at others and may also change location, usually becoming more severe in parts of the body that are used most. Add. symptoms often include: unrefreshing sleep, headaches, irritable bowel, cognitive disturbances, clumsiness, dizziness, allergies, sensitivity to environmental changes.
