Story
Asha-Sheffield is a chapter of the charity organisation "Asha for Education". It was started on 26th January 2006 by a bunch of enthusiastic people who want to support basic education in India.
It is a diverse group, comprising of students and professionals. The aim of the group is to involve the communities in Sheffield and its surrounding area to collectively support and provide financial assistance to grass-root level educational movements in India. Members of Asha-Sheffield attempt to maintain a close personal involvement with the organisations and projects that are funded. The group is growing steadily and currently we have 24 active members.
Asha-Sheffield is a non-profit voluntary organisation. The group only supports non-political and secular organisations and projects, the details of which are given in our website(http://www.ashanet.org/sheffield/).
Over the years Asha for Education has organised various fund raising events in and around The University Of Sheffield including the Annual Badminton Tournament. The Asha Badminton Tournament has been running for the past 4 years and it is very popular among many professional badminton clubs. This year the event would be held on 15th of June, 2013 at Ponds Forge,Sheffield City Centre.
Last year we had 24 teams (48 people) from different badminton clubs, and universities participating in the event. The number of people attending the event usually ranges from 100-120. It would be great if you could make it to the event to show your support for a noble cause and your welcome to participate if you would like to play.
From the money raised through this event, 10% would be donated by The Children's Hosiptal Charity and rest would be attibuted towards the projects supported by Asha for Education.
