Story
After being separated from my 12-year old daughter for a year due to Covid restrictions, I am now back in Australia for some precious daddy-daughter time. However, before I can see her I am, once again, locked in a Sydney hotel for 14 days mandatory quarantine, during which time I am unable to leave my room.
As a proud Tommy Club Founding Patron, I am taking on two events in the coming weeks, in memory of my grandfather Flt Lt Eddie Preedy, who served in the Royal Air Force during WW2, flying eight different aircraft types, from Beaufighters to Wellingtons. His final posting saw him serve as a navigator in 617 (Dambusters) Squadron, with whom he deployed extensively in Europe, The Middle East, India and the Far East..
So (perhaps foolishly!), I have decided to run a full marathon in my room on Monday 14 June (10am BST / 6pm AUS) to raise money for a veterans' charity, not only to raise additional funds for RBLI but to maintain some semblance of fitness and sanity! Without a treadmill, this challenge will require me to run approximately >4600 laps of the room.
I will also be running the London Landmarks Half Marathon on 1 August as part of team RBLI’s #teambrave
RBLI provides care, support and employment to the Armed Forces community, disabled people and disadvantaged communities. If you'd like to support either event, please get involved and donate whatever you can. No amount is too small to make a big difference.
Thank you! Ash
