Story
This race is dedicated to friends who are recovering from Stroke and for everyone who has lost love ones due to the Covid 19 pandemic.
A stroke occurs when the blood supply to your brain is interrupted or reduced. This deprives your brain of oxygen and nutrients, which can cause your brain cells to die.
A stroke may be caused by a blocked artery(ischemic stroke) or the leaking or bursting of a blood vessel (hemorrhagic stroke). Some people may experience only a temporary disruption of blood flow to their brain (transient ischemic attack, or TIA).
Stroke is the third leading cause of death and the
main cause of adult neurological disability in England with an estimated annual
cost to the economy of £8.3 billion. It can have a devastating and lasting
impact on the lives of people and their families; a third of people who have a
stroke are left with a long-term disability. Stroke patients have a better
chance of survival, and increased independence, if they are treated in a stroke
unit by staff with the right stroke-specific knowledge and skills.
Therefore, funds are needed to support this wonderful charity they can’t do it alone.
