Story
On March the 14th 2024, I will a take on an incredibly difficult challenge - attempting to cross a 100km route across the Arctic in snowshoes. I will be part of a team of women from Brecon, and 8 others on the team.
Our start point will be from: Kungsleden Base Camp, Abisko, Northern Sweden, 250km inside the Arctic Circle. We will work as a team walking in the harshest of environments, having been taught various artic survival techniques such as ice-breaking drills, self-rescue, building emergency shelters, snow holes, and of course most important expedition foot care!
Along the way we will cross frozen lakes, skirt ancient glaciers, pass by the villages of the indigenous Sami people, witness some of the most stunning scenery on the planet.
Money raised for Velindre Charity helps fund ground breaking research and clinical trials, cutting edge treatments, specialist nurses, support services, therapies, equipment and so much more which are above those provided by a stretched NHS – so donations really do have a significant impact on patients and their families.
Your donation will allow Velindre to continue to provide hope for the future. Every one of us has been touched in some way by cancer, either directly or through friends, colleagues and loved ones. It's the cruellest of diseases.
We're taking it on though, a tough challenge, we will be in its face for 7 hard long days. The team will be snowshoe walking through blizzards and tough terrain, carrying our own rucksacks weighing around 10kg and also taking turns in pulling the pulks with essential kit.
Any amount you can spare would help do wonderful things for cancer sufferers. The money goes directly to Velindre just giving and some of the money raised may be used to support the challenge.
The training has already started and I will post pictures of our team training. Of course the final photos of the challenge will be seen at a later stage as there will be no phone signal where we are going.
Thank You 😊 Terry
