My story is a long an painful journey…Jennie was my wife who sadly passed away earlier this year, leaving our 2 beautiful daughters without a mother.
Jennie suffered from mental health for a number of years. As a couple, we kept this secret at the request of Jennie. The cause of her struggles were as a result of an abusive childhood which eventually resulted in Jennie developing bi-polar and suffering an extreme manic episode, where she left our children and me and lived for a short time on the streets of Plymouth until sectioned. Her journey back to recovery was very slow and painful for all, especially Jennie, until the point came where she believed she could not get back to a point where she could enjoy life again and be the amazing mother she once was.
During Jennie’s recovery, she started working at Happy Days. Jennie was such a kind and caring person, and this suited her perfectly.
Having seen how someone who was intelligent, funny, had a stable and loving immediate family, and had an amazing career, suddenly suffer with such a catastrophic mental episode that left her homeless, has made me appreciate that every homeless person has a backstory and deserves a second, third, fourth chance (as many as it takes). Happy Days offers this and I’m proud to help out and hope Jennie is looking down too and thinking the same.
Please support me in cycling nearly 400KM in 3 days and support this amazing charity.
