Story
The Prophet (PBUH) said, “The best charity is giving water to drink.” (Ahmad)
The bombs that fell on Gaza in May 2021 decimated the water system. Sewage networks were destroyed, flooding streets with dangerous water.
£1,500 – Provides clean water for 100 people in Rafah, helping us to build a desalination plant that will provide 60,000 people with fresh water every day.
The UN recognizes access to water as a human right, and giving water is considered the best of charities in Islam. But many people in Gaza still struggle to access this basic fundamental right. In fact, the single biggest cause of death among children in Gaza is drinking contaminated water.
The entire population of the Gaza Strip depends on one single aquifer for water, which is chronically contaminated by saltwater and sewage. While most of us turn on the tap without a second thought, families in Gaza are forced to spend a third of their income to buy water, often at extortionate rates.
Give clean water, reap the blessings for years to come
With your help, we’ll build a desalination plant – including three wells – in Rafah, providing safe drinking water to up to 60,000 people for 15 years. It’s the best charity you can give, and it’s a beautiful act of Sadaqah Jariyah, providing blessings year after year.
