Story
At babyballet we have always been committed to supporting various charities through our classes. The week of the 27th of September to 2 October, we danced in Gold to recognise and support Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. As childhood cancer receives the least funding of all cancer groups, we want to do our bit to help change that. Over the years we have had a few students who have battled this beast and we've done our best to support these families with anything we could do from hospital visits, gifts from the babyballet shop, visits from our friend Twinkle Bear and private lessons when they weren't well enough to be with other children.
In 2020, this hit even closer to home when our owner Miss Stephanie's daughter, Ariana was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia at The Royal Marsden. The family is very touched with how supportive and kind our babyballet families have been during this time. Inspired to create a research fund focusing on genomics and precision oncology to help reduce toxicity for children whilst improving treatments, Miss Stephanie and family met with CCLG and felt their Special Funds were the perfect place for them. 100% of the money raised is dedicated to these goals. It might not help Ariana now, who will be in treatment until March 2023, but it will hopefully help the children and families who come afterward.
💛A few facts:
🎗1 in 285 will be diagnosed with cancer before the age of 20 so in our opinion, that's not rare.
🎗It's the #1 cause of death by disease in children and it has increased by 33% since the 1970s. The causes for most childhood cancers are unknown and currently cannot be prevented.
🎗Children receive less than 3% of the annual cancer research funding. We believe they are worth far more than this.
🎗In 6 years there have been over 77 new drugs for adult cancers - in 77 years there have been only 3 new drugs for childhood cancer.
💛Thank you for dancing in Gold for change!!💛
