Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

2022 sees Arthur Rank Hospice Charity celebrate its 40th anniversary whilst Chariots of Fire marks it 30th year. Since its launch, Chariots of Fire has raised more than £1.48 million for charity and Arthur Rank Hospice Charity has set its sights high during its anniversary year with a fundraising target of £71,000.

The funds will be used to open a charity shop and cover the operating costs for the first year. This is part of the charity’s ambitious plans as within its 2022-2027 strategy to generate crucial income to enable the charity to deliver services for people living with advanced illness and those at the end of life and providing vital support to their loved ones.

The retail expansion plan builds on the success of five charity shops and one retail hub already run by the charity. Each shop is not only essential in raising funds, it provides employment and volunteering opportunities and acknowledges the importance of sustainability through it passion to recycle pre-loved items in a host of ways helping to also reduce landfill across the county and ensure the community can access affordable clothing, furniture, bric-a brac, children’s toys and much more.

I joined the Trustee board in March 2022 and alongside my full time role as Chief Financial Officer at Owlstone Medical Limited. I immediately entered an Arthur Rank Hospice Charity team which also comprises Colin Sherwood (Trustee), Alex Manning (Trustee), Mark Kingstone (Trustee) and two members of Arthur Rank: Donna Talbot (Director of Fundraising and Communications) and Ellie Weatherly (Corporate Partnerships Lead).

I will be very proud to represent Arthur Rank Hospice Charity on the day. The staff and volunteers provide an incredible level of care and compassion to each individual that they interact with, and really do enhance the quality of life for those who are living with life-limiting conditions or who may be reaching the end of their lives. If others can be aware of the support that Arthur Rank Hospice Charity provides and are able to contribute to the fundraising from the Chariots of Fire event, then I will be delighted.

If you are inspired to enter a team for the race which takes place on 19 March 2023 please do so at chariots-of-fire.co.uk/enter-a-team.
