UNICEF say that “ Yemen is the largest humanitarian crisis in the world, with more than 24 million people – some 80 per cent of the population – in need of humanitarian assistance, including more than 12 million children. Since the conflict escalated in March 2015, the country has become a living hell for the countries children.
With COVID-19 now spreading rapidly, Yemen is facing an emergency within an emergency. Sanitation and clean water are in short supply. Only half of health facilities are functioning, and many that remain operational lack basic equipment like masks and gloves, let alone oxygen and other essential supplies to treat the coronavirus. Many health workers are receiving no salaries or incentives, and 10.2 million children don't have access to basic healthcare.
Meanwhile, economic shocks, conflict, floods, desert locusts and now COVID-19 are creating a perfect that could reverse hard-earned food security gains.”
On Fri 4th September I will be taking on the challenge of cycling 140+ miles from the West of England to the East of England. This will be done over the course of 3 days. Every single penny will be greatly appreciated asI know times are tough for us all due to the global pandemic. Especially for people of Yemen who are in such desperate need of help. I am a relative novice when it comes to cycling so I’m guess it will be a challenging 3 days.
