Story
On 22nd July 2017, Boreal and her family & friends crew will embark for a third Arctic campaign, sailing from Isafjordur in Iceland towards the East Coast of Greenland. We will be exploring the 500 nautical mile strech between Scoresby Sund (70°16N, 22°11W) and Tasiilaq (65°36N, 37°37W). In addition to the constant challenges of the navigation in high latitude regions with drifting ice, icebergs and rapidly changing weather, we will carry out a Citizen Science Project about Anthropogenic Marine Litter in East Greenland, for the Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) in Bremerhaven. Our objective will be to gather data on plastic or other human pollution following a scientific protocol.
Plastic pollution across the ocean and rivers is rising at a alarming rate. Hence our objective to suport WaterAid.
Every minute, every day, people suffer and lives are lost needlessly because of a lack of clean water and sanitation. WaterAid helps end this global crisis and transform lives.
Currently 663million people (10% of the world's population) live without safe water and over 800 children die every single day from diseases caused by dirty water and poor sanitation. WaterAid aims to transform the lives of the poorest and most marginalised people by improving access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene, and hopes to give everyone safe access to water by 2030, so please dig dip and sponsor this worthy cause!
