Story
I am running the London Marathon in aid of The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), the leading movement against suicide- the single biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK.
During COVID-19 it became clear how easy it is to become isolated when face-to-face contact is greatly reduced, meaning that we lost far too many young men during the height of the lockdown(s). CALM offers frontline support to those who have reached a crisis point in their lives and need to talk to someone. They facilitate a free and confidential helpline/webchat for 7 hours a day, 7 days a week.
CALM aims to support people through the most difficult times in their lives, challenging male stereotypes and encouraging positive behavioural changes using cultural touch points like art, music, sport and comedy.
This is a cause that is very close to my heart, particularly as my Grandfather took his own life when my Mother was very young- the devastating ripple effect from suicide can impact generations. Early intervention when someone is struggling is incredibly necessary and that's what CALM champions.
If you can, I'd be so grateful if you could donate towards the fundraising target and share this page on social media!
Thanks!

nb. originally I was supposed to run the marathon in 2021 but had to defer my entry due to dates clashing!
