Story
In May I lost a friend very close to my heart to suicide. He had such a great life and to honour this myself and a few friends have decided to do something extreme. At 7am on the 5th of May we will set off aiming to complete the 106km walk in under 24hours! The challenge is jogging/walking 106km, non stop across the Isle of Wight. I’m fundraising for CALM, a suicide prevention charity. CALM needs increased awareness and financial support. As little as £7 can be a life changing phone call, £80 pays for there website daily, £160 keeps an entire helpline open all night and £1200 funds the whole programme for a day. Not only does CALM try to prevent people at breaking point. They also run rejuvenation projects such as ‘the best man project’ which looks to involve lonely, unappreciated men and give them an opportunity they may never would have had. Furthermore, they spend 20% of there resources in bringing about change to the way men are viewed/what is expected of them. Even if you can’t donate a lot, please share this great charity. Suicide is the biggest killer to men under 45. You never know who is in a dark place and needs help from organisations such as CALM.
The picture shows the last time I was running against Harry. This time I’ll be running it with him😇
I wish my friend had found this charity before it was to late for him. He had such an amazing life and I know he would be so proud and supportive of this challenge. Please donate not only for such a great cause but too give myself the support and drive to finish an ultrachallenge with a distance equivelent to over two and a half marathons!
