Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

A year ago I lost my dad to cancer. I also lost my best mate. You can read more about my dad's story in the link to his page. Luckily I have a lot of good friends and family that rallied around me and supported me through those tough times. Many of my friends knew my dad almost as well as they know me and I'm extremely grateful that some of them have (perhaps unwisely) agreed to join me on a little cycle ride in order to raise money for AMMF, a specialist cancer charity that I have been supporting for the past year.

My dad was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, a cancer of the bile ducts in June 2013. Unfortunately, like many cases, the diagnosis came too late for any cure.  My dad died two months later.  Although it is a relatively less well known cancer, cholangiocarcinoma is the second most common liver cancer in the world.  Incidences are rising and we don't know why. Currently only 5% of patients survive one year from diagnosis.  We need more focused research to better understand it and help those affected in future.

So on Wednesday 3rd September 2014, a peloton of Lamby, Brooksie, Beanie, Ads and Kam (Team A2A) will depart Marble Arch at some ungodly hour, with the aim of reaching Paris by the Saturday lunchtime.  That's quite a bit of cycling, and unfortunately I've been told that cycling south does not mean it is downhill...  The peloton will be encouraged all the way by our very own Smithy, who has kindly agreed to take time off work to cruise in his car and carry all the gear.  More information to follow!

All of this is in aid of raising money to fund more research into bile duct cancer. Team A2A are self-funding this trip.  There is no third party organising the route or offering support, and therefore all monies donated are going directly to AMMF (The Alan Morement Memorial Fund), the only UK based charity that specialises in research into the causes and treatment for cholangiocarcinoma.  We appreciate all donations, no matter how small, and it will help us keep peddling up the South Downs, which are inconveniently placed in the way to Paris.

Again, thank you for all the support, we will try to update the page with photos on our voyage to Paris!

Team A2A (Jon, Pete, Kamran, Adam, Richard and Mark)
