Story
Hello everyone!
On the 23rd of February, I will be volunteering for 11 weeks on a development programme in the province of Stung Treng in Northeast Cambodia. This is part of International Citizen Service (ICS), which brings young people together to fight poverty and make a difference where it is needed most. I’ll be working alongside volunteers from the developing country on a securing livelihood project, which ensures people have the ability to become employed and where necessary will strive to provide them with alternative livelihoods in a range of different ways working with three different partner NGOs. We will also be helping to raise awareness and work on various issues whilst out there, including women's rights, nutrition and farming techniques and working to ensure indigenous peoples are as integrated into community as possible.
ICS works with communities that have specifically requested their help. It also aims to inspire young people in the UK and overseas to become active citizens who are passionate about long term community development.
I need to raise £800 minimum for VSO who are one of the respected development charities that deliver ICS. This will allow them to continue to bring about positive change in the developing communities where they work. You can check out their amazing work here http://www.vsointernational.org/
I will be doing various fundraising activities before I leave to volunteer, but I will update this page as I organise all of them! Any contribution from you will make a real difference to the lives of people in developing countries, so please contribute as much as you can! The halfway deadline (£400) is on January 4th and the full £800 deadline is on February 8th.
(FYI: the government funds the volunteer placements themselves, so not a penny of the money you donate will go towards my volunteering - that is already paid for. All of the money goes towards the charity VSO ICS itself.)
Thank you so much for your support!
