Story
Thank you for visiting our page.
In February 2020, John and I will be swapping our golf shoes for heavy hiking boots, hitting the tarmac not the sofa and swapping pedicures for blister plasters… to train and participate in the JKBTF Kilimanjaro Trek 2020 and raise cash for the John King Brain Tumour Foundation.
We are taking on the challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro - Africa's highest mountain at 5,895 metres (19,341 feet) above sea level. We will trek via the Lomosho route over 8 days to hopefully minimise altitude sickness and to provide the best chance of reaching the summit!
We are doing this to raise money for the John King Brain Tumour Foundation (registered charity). The Foundation aims to raise much-needed funds to support the advancement of treatment and research into brain tumours and to purchase a state of the art neurosurgical microscope in association with neurosurgeons at the Atkinson Morley Wing at St Georges Hospital Trust, London.
Brain tumours kill more people under 40 than any other cancer yet just 1% of the annual spend on cancer research is currently allocated to this disease.
This charity is also close to my heart as Geraint, my first husband, suffered and died of brain tumour in 2013.
We would be really grateful if you could sponsor us to undertake this challenge, any amount you are able to give will be hugely appreciated by the Foundation. We are self funding the cost of our trip, so every penny you donate will go to the Foundation.
Thank you so much in anticipation of your kind and generous support.
Alessandra and John
