Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. Last year, due to you know what, our planned 100k ultra marathon was postponed. As a thank you for everyone's support, Sara ran her own solo 55k ultra hitting the original target, BUT...
This year we're back and more determined than ever to do as much as we possibly can to raise awareness of brain tumours, along with vital funds for this incredible charity. On 12th and 13th June - yes, we'll be running through the night - we will be taking on 100 hilly kilometres in the Lake District!
Brain tumours are indiscriminate. They can affect anyone, at any age and their effects are life changing. Here are our stories:
In February 2018, Sara was diagnosed with a large Acoustic Neuroma/Vestibular Schwannoma. That April she suffered from a haemorrhage, and in May 2018 had surgery to remove the tumour. This left her profoundly deaf with no balance on one side and unable to walk. She had facial palsy, problems swallowing, and severe nausea. As well as hearing and balance loss, she still suffers with impaired vision and fatigue.
Sara continues to work on her recovery to prove it can be done, and shares her story in the hope that it will help others on a similar journey. In fact, she has made good use of her time in lockdown to get her story, Sickbed To Summits published!
3 years earlier in July 2015, Danielle also had surgery to remove an
Acoustic Neuroma. Following the surgery she was left completely deaf in her left ear and needed to rebuild her balance and redevelop the ability to walk unaided. After spending 2 days unconscious and a week in hospital she returned home to continue her recovery. During the time of diagnosis, surgery and recovery Danielle was a Professional Footballer for Liverpool FC, and almost 3 months to the day after surgery made her debut in the Champions League. Now, she is continuously trying to share her story to help inspire people who are facing their own struggles in life.
