At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On new years eve 2011 my Dad passed away in a nursing home.  Sadly his quality of life had deteriorated over a number of years due to dementia.  Eventually, he lost his mobility and spent his final few months in a Aaron Court in Ellesmere Port.  It is during this time that we witnessed the pain of dementia and the impact on friends and family who gradually become strangers.

I looked on his death as a relief as he was no longer suffering and it was during the following months when I took up running to help beat 'the downers'.  I have never run in my life and now I'm going for a half marathon.
