Story
I am relatively new to running. This will be my first race and the thought of running 13.1 miles feels like a huge challenge. But as I train, Mum is always on my mind.
Anyone who knew Aggie, knew how remarkable she was. She devoted her life to caring for others and as a nurse she cared for many older people, loving each and every one of them as if they were her own family.
As Mum herself got more frail she had her family and friends looking out for her and was always able to go to church and make it down town to get her shopping and meet friends. Having her own independence was so important to her. But for so many older people, that's not possible. That's why I decided to run for Independent Age.
Independent Age provide free advice to older people and their families on care and support, money and benefits and health and mobility to help them to remain independent and in control of their own lives. And crucially they call and visit those who would otherwise live in isolation.
Sadly Mum died in October 2016 but on every run I do, I can hear her cheering me on, and I know she'd be pleased to see me raising money for such a good cause. Anything you can give would be a huge help for Independent Age.
Thank you.
