Story
I can't believe it's almost a year since I ran (shuffled!) this race last year and almost four years since I was diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease. This year I am running with my friend Alok who is blind, but as a skier, cyclist and water skier, a half marathon is just another adventure for him. His main challenge, and risk, will be relying on me to lead him around the course, although 14 years ago we survived the London Marathon, as the picture shows.
Together we hope to highlight to others that disabilities don't have to stop you in your tracks, rather you have to adapt and carry on and enjoy.
To quote another Parkinsons sufferer: "He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life." - Muhammad Ali
I also hope to raise a few pounds for Parkinsons UK to help fund their search for a cure and dedicated Parkinsons nurses. Parkinsons affects each sufferer in different ways, the key is finding a way to cope with your own set of symptons and not let them overwhelm you. To this end Parkinsons UK also provides a huge support network which is invaluable.
