The Fastnet Race is the Royal Ocean Racing Club’s classic event with over 250 yachts entered to race. The course will take the large fleet out into the English Channel, along the South Coast of England past Lands End and out into the open ocean to the Fastnet Rock off the South West coast of Ireland. The return leg will see the fleet return to Plymouth, via Bishop Rock Lighthouse on the South side of the Scilly Isles. The course is a very demanding 608 miles and is one of the hardest tests for skippers and crews with its tricky tidal currents and changeable weather conditions. The crew are all serving soldiers and officers many of who have all recently returned from operations overseas and who have decided to fund raise for the Royal British Legion in its 90th year.
The Royal British Legion cover a huge range of issues, including counselling, job retraining, skills assessment, getting the right pensions and benefits, money and career advice, welfare grants, pilgrimages to war graves, convalescent and nursing care, and home and hospital visits. There has only been one year (1968) since the Second World War when a British Service person hasn't been killed on active service.
The Royal British Legion is the teams chosen charity so please support us, dig deep and donate now.
