Hi Everyone
Ive decided to jump in at the deep end and have signed up to do the Birmingham Velo 100mile bike ride!
Most people will know that I’ve never really been much of a cyclist, so I have a tough task on my hands!
I’m raising money for a charity very close to my heart; Birmingham Heartlands Hospital Women’s and Neonatal ICU. The Consultants, Doctors, Midwives Neonatal Nurses and support staff are all incredible! I can’t thank them enough for the care given to my wife (Steph) and son (Oscar).
During the pregnancy, Steph was closely monitored by a specialist team (the Pre-term Prevention Clinic) at the Antenatal Unit and had to stay on bed rest for 14 weeks, (10 weeks of which was spent on the ‘Cedar Ward’ within the women’s unit at Heartlands).
At the time, we were uncertain if our baby would even make it to 24 wks gestation. However, Oscar hung in there and was eventually born at 27 wks gestation (3 months early) weighing just 2lb 9oz. He was then placed into intensive care at the Neonatal Unit, where he spent a further 3 months in an incubator.
The entire journey was pretty scary and we had also experienced two loses before Oscar. Our first son, Alexander, was born at 19 weeks and sadly passed away shortly after birth. He will always have a special place in our hearts and we’re eternally grateful for all the love and support from our family and friends.
We’re very lucky indeed to have Oscar in our lives and can’t say thank you enough to the whole team there for saving Oscar’s life. I’m pleased to say that he’s a happy and healthy boy and doing fantastically well!
I will keep you all updated with my training and progress as all this starts now!
Please donate whatever you can to help me hit my target and help a great charity in making more success stories like ours!
Much Love
Tony, Steph and Oscar x
