Story
Unfortunately I didn’t finish, my efforts were hampered by lack of sleep and poor weather conditions which left several with hypothermia I got as far as Devizes at 150 miles. Chasing the sun across the country is a massive challenge and my hat comes off to anyone who finished. There’s always next year.
Thank you so much to all have donated so far, if you haven’t already or even if you have, please make a donation.
Yes I know its hard to believe, but this year I am 50. To celebrate I am tripling my effort to raise money for various cancer charities In Emilys Memory. The first of these events is the Pauls house ride to Paris on my birthday weekend in May.
We miss Emily so so much.
Emily was a kind, gregarious, creative, funny, rainbow and butterfly loving little girl. She was also stubborn, absolutely knew her own mind, and faced her treatment stoically.
Emily died in February 2018 at the age of 7. She had Pneumonia bought on by a cold, post bone marrow transplant. She'd had a relapse from her original cancer, the transplant being her only hope.
It's difficult to convey how the treatment effects your child, Memories I would rather not have. But through organisations like Young lives v's cancer, families are supported with a home like accommodation called Pauls house, on or near to site when needed. They also lend an ear when times are hard and can help deal with life's little dramas which seem so huge, from car breakdowns, benefit entitlements to bus fares and childcare issues etc etc etc.
I appreciate that times are difficult and that we are all having to dig a bit deeper for a donation, but imagine if your child had cancer right now in the midst of an ongoing pandemic in an overstretched health service.
So a fitting charity and challenge to get you donating,
When cancer strikes young lives we do all we can to limit the damage it causes beyond their health. It is thanks to the dedication of our supporters that we are able to help these young lives. But we know we aren't yet doing enough. One in three young people still don't receive any support from Young lives v's cancer ( Formerly known as CLIC Sargent). We will fight tirelessly to change this. We want to ensure all young cancer patients and their families receive the support they need for as long as they need it.
