Story
Can you swim a mile (64 lengths)? How about doing it day after day for a month? Well, I'm giving myself the challenge of doing exactly that to raise funds for this amazing charity. I won’t be going to Africa, but I will be swimming a mile a day for a total of 4 weeks (no break days!). I’ve only recently got up to swimming a mile, so this will be no easy challenge, either physically, or practically – as I’ll need to find the time, and also a swimming pool wherever I am with work - which for next few weeks will be Amsterdam!
Phunzira's mission is "to help provide academic and non-academic health and educational assistance to impoverished children and adults in the north of Malawi". Ruarwe (where the charity operates) is an extremely poor, small fishing village located along the shores of Lake Malawi. There are two secondary schools and a number of primary schools in the area that are in great need of educational support. The majority are overcrowded, underfunded and grossly understaffed.
Stacey (my PGCE friend) will be giving her time to go out to teach maths in their centre in Ruarwe from May 2013, and together we are fundraising to support the purchase of equiptment and tools for the school and local community to try to maximise the impact. This is an incredible opportunity to really make a difference and get to see the story unfold through Stacey's page from May onwards.
So... dig deep, give as much as you can spare, and follow our posts - join the trip here; Phunzira - Trip to Africa
