Story
After a 3 year battle with Pseudomyxoma Peritonei, a cancer stemming from the appendix, involving a massive operation removing most of her bowel plus her stomach, and living with nightly intravenous nutrition (TPN), Anny passed away on August 27th. She had fought so bravely to conquer the disease after the operation and then chemotherapy when it returned. She was admitted to Sobell House Hospice at the end of July when we had to accept that her time was limited, so their expert team of medics could get her medication under control. She chose to stay there to die rather than the option of coming home, as she felt so comfortable there in the calm and caring environment, so unlike being in hospital, with the security of knowing that the medical care was there 24 hrs. Her room was full of sunshine and opened out into the garden which was really nice for her and appreciated by us all when visiting. There was also a bed for me in her room so I could sleep there which was comforting for us both. The nursing staff and doctors, music therapist, chaplain were all wonderful, and always had time for us with so much support at such a difficult time. It is a very special place.
