Each year I try and raise some money for a sensible charity.

This year it is McMillan - on the grounds that lots of people are ill with cancer and need McMillan's practical support.  Both my parents had cancer and it hastened my father's death. But, I know far more people whose families have been worse affected than mine and so, in an odd way, this particular fund raising effort is not so much personal but general. As the NHS struggles to meet demand it has struck me that we will become increasingly dependent on the kind of help McMillan provide, so give generously!

Just in case you wondered, it is not at all clear to me that I will actually make it to Paris - this is soooooo much longer than any ride I have ever done. However, on my new bicycle I shall try very hard.

There will, for your delectation and delight, be entertaining picccies of me, once again in lycra,  looking hot, tired and probably fed up en route and, with luck, mightily relieved at the point at which j'arrive a Paris!!!!!!
