Story
I am running the Edinburgh Marathon to raise money for the Movement Centre. My gorgeous little cousin Jackson was born with severe Cerebal Palsy, leaving him unable to walk or talk. Despite this Jackson is one of the happiest, smiliest, most amazing boys you could ever meet. The Movement Centre has been incredible in aiding Jackson's development through physiotherapy and providing him with a customised standing frame.
When Jackson was first taken to the centre he couldn't stand in any frame. Over the space of a year he was provided with funding to visit the centre and a standing frame was built for him - which he loves being in! The physiotherapy given by the centre strengthened Jackson's spine and allowed him to weight bare, which reduces the need for any hip surgery, improves his general wellbeing and enables him to interact better at home and school. The work done by the centre for Jackson was life changing for him and his family.
The Movement Centre's mission is to maximise the potential of children’s movement control through Targeted Training. Many children who visit them have a disability that affects their movement control. Targeted Training addresses these issues. Consequently, a course of therapy can help children to gain essential functional skills. Gaining these skills can make a child far more independent. As a result, this can completely change their lives - as it has done for Jackson.
Targeted training is a specialist therapy and it sadly sits outside the remit for the standard NHS funding.
Any support for this amazing charity would be massively appreciated!
