Story
I am excited to participate in my 6th triathlon with the Gals for Cal team at the Max Performance Title 9 Triathlon on Sunday, September 12th in Hopkinton, MA. The Gals are a team of Duchenne moms and our incredibly supportive friends and families, dedicated to raising vital funds for Jett Foundation.
Last year's race was cancelled due to Covid; I'm pleased we are able to be back together this year, making a positive impact for so many families affected by Duchenne muscular dystrophy. It has been a challenging year for Eytani and our family as he continues to lose function and independence. We have wheelchairs, a home adaptation and accessible van in the works and so many considerations that, some days, feels all too overwhelming. Duchenne is a relentless and unforgiving condition that cuts deep in our family and all those trying to give their son(s) the best quality of life.
Since the team was founded, the Gals have raised over $700,000 for Jett Foundation. This year marks the 13th anniversary of this incredible team of women who have challenged themselves and challenged Duchenne. This year, Jett Foundation will serve 250 campers through year-round virtual programs and summer camp sessions; deliver nearly $600,000 of accessibility items and emergency assistance through the Jett Giving Fund; and reach hundreds of families through their educational webinars held throughout the year. All of this is made possible thanks to the generosity of supporters like you.
About Duchenne muscular dystrophy: Duchenne is the most common genetic killer of children, it affects 1 in every 3,600-5,000 boys born. A relentless and progressive muscle-wasting disease, boys lose the ability to walk in early teens and typically succumb to respiratory or heart failure in early 20s. There is no cure, DMD is 100% fatal.
I am grateful for your support! Come cheer on the Gals and Eytani crossing the finish line with me on September 12th!
Annie xoxo
