Story

Ryan Tolley lost his battle to leukaemia on 30th December 2011 aged 22.  Whilst in hospital in Southend, Ryan began collecting money by asking people to name a bear someone had bought him and donating £1.  He wanted to raise money for the children in the hospital and the nurses on Elizabeth Lowery Ward, Southend hospital. Once he had raised a large enough sum of money, Ryan would pick a name from the box, name the bear and donate this, along with the money collected.

Unfortunately, Ryan wasn't able to finish this.  It was his dream to provide help and support to those in similar conditions to himself as when he needed support and funding, it wasn't availabe.  In honour of Ryan's wish, Ryan's mum Mandy, four of his best friends and a couple of Mandy's friends created 'The Ryan Tolley Leukaemia Trust Fund' in February 2012.  Since then we have held many fundraising events and the money raised is distributed to children and young adults with leukaemia or terminal conditons. They may be referred to us by the Elizabeth Lowery Ward or through discussions when members of the chartiy identify a need. The charity so far has donated to the Elizabeth Lowery Ward, 6 DVD players, 6 headsets and 20 DVD's.  We have donated to St Helena Hospice £500 and have bought a syring driver which cost £1000.00.  The charity has also donated £100 to contribute to a terminally ill cancer patient who wished to take her children on one last holiday.
