London Landmarks Half Marathon 2023 · 2 April 2023 ·
After running the London Landmarks Half Marathon in 2021, I swore I would never do such a long run again. My legs felt like they would drop off! 21km is such a long way and I am not a natural runner by any stretch of the imagination. However, human memory is fallible and just 8 months later I signed up again for last year’s event in April 2022. Due to catching Covid a couple of weeks before I had to pull out of the event which was really disappointing especially as I was training to do it for a wonderful small charity called Joshua Tarrant Trust who support children with brain tumours and their families so as well as being disappointed for not being able to run after all the training, I was also really disappointed that I hadn’t fulfilled my fundraising obligations to them. I decided to keep training and do it instead this year so I am really hoping to raise as much as possible for them this year to make up for not doing it last year.
So this year I am running the London Landmarks Half Marathon for the Joshua Tarrant Trust, a tiny charity based in the East of England. I am really proud to be part of a team of just 5 people running this event for them in April 2023. It costs £3,029.50 a month to fund the 3 posts they support within a children's rehabililtation at Addenbrooke's hospital in Cambridge. 100% of all profits raised goes to supporting children with brain tumours. Joshua was 8 years old when he was diagnosed with a brain tumour, 2004. During early diagnosis, he had
a lifesaving operation to fit a shunt, to control hydrocephalus (water on the brain) relieving the pressure on his brain. A further operation to remove the tumors was too dangerous and was not an option. He underwent four courses of chemotherapy. Devastatingly the results were unsuccessful, Joshua was tragically diagnosed as terminally ill. Joshua's battle continued for a further 8 years, which astounded his medical team. Joshua was always smiling and touching everyone that met him. He was so brave, family was everything to him as he was to them. Joshua lost his brave fight on April 29th 2012
My training for the event has been tough. Although I have been running regularly, both with my wonderful running club (Storm) and on my own, in the last 3 months I have had Covid and am currently battling off shin splints so just trying to do enough training without injuring myself too much. I am determined to get round and raise as much money as possible for my charity to support their incredible work.
Please support the Joshua Tarrant Trust by sponsoring me. Every penny will help and will go towards helping children with brain tumours and their families through the hardest of times.
