We We support terminally ill people to enabling them to remain at home
Story
In October a very dear friend, Brenda, died of non-Hodgkins lymphoma, aged 63.
Her death has spurred me on to do some fundraising for a charity, Helen’s Trust, which was very close to her heart.
In Spring 2010 I will be doing a skydive in her memory, so please read on to find out a little more about the charity … then please, please, sponsor me by clicking the button!
My aim is to raise £1000 - I am funding the full cost of the jump myself so that everything that is pledged will go to Helen’s Trust.
Helen’s Trust is a local charity that helps anyone in the Derbyshire Dales and the NE of Sheffield with an incurable illness to have the choice to spend their final days in their own home. The Trust tries to fund whatever it takes to achieve this aim, for example:
- round the clock nursing care,
- equipment to make staying at home possible, such as a stair lift or a washing machine,
- transport to and from hospital appointments,
- massage from a complimentary therapist to help relieve pain,
- a nursery place for a child to give a sick parent the opportunity to rest.
Often people who are ill can’t afford to fund these things themselves and so will have no choice but to go into hospital to die, rather than be comfortable at home surrounded by their family and friends. Sometimes it is really simple things that can make a huge difference and give more comfort than you can ever imagine.
Helen’s Trust does make a difference to the lives of the people they are privileged to help. Brenda and her partner, Tom, have supported this Trust for many years and Brenda herself benefitted from its help and was able to die at home as she wished.
Please remember that every single £1 that you sponsor me will mean that a person who has an incurable illness can spend a little more time at home with their friends and family…
…Are you ready to sponsor me now?!
Thanks for visiting my page - please remember to leave me a good luck message when you sponsor me and, of course, I will keep you updated on how I get on.
Thanks again
Annette

Every day, people living with terminal illness are given the choice to stay at home by Helen's Trust. By responding to the needs of individuals and their families we help people stay at home, bringing comfort and support at the end of their lives.
