Story
I have decided to do a big trek in London on the day of my Birthday for Alzheimer's Society in memory of my dad.
I realized that people forgot my dad much more quickly than he forgot them once he was diagnosed. The main reason is that once a person is diagnosed they stop being relevant to you. When my dad passed away, some people told me that for them he had passed away years ago, when he stopped speaking, remembering, reacting like a normal person.
I think that I had a special relationship with my dad because I was able to see the way he loved me in other ways than simple words. For instance, we would go on big walks together, or listen to music. It's in silence sometimes, that the biggest conversations are held.
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever.Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
