Story
If you know me, then you'll probably know that my involvement with Bridge2Aid has been a long one and my commitment to them is just as passionate as ever (disclaimer, I am now also employed on a PT basis by them).
This 'Smarter and Stronger Challenge' is in support of their Covid-19 response plan for 2020 and there is a huge need for funds to drive this response forward. (If you want to know more about this, please take a look at bridge2aid.org/smarter-stronger-appeal/)
There are three 30-day challenges taking place between 21/08 - 20/09.
- 50km walk - the virtual route being a Kilimanjaro Trek.
- 462km cycle - the virtual route of our Safari Cycle
- 16km swim - the virtual route across a (short) width of Lake Malawi.
I've done the real Kilimanjaro Trek and begged you all for donations for that 9 years ago plus having two dogs means that walking isn't an enormous challenge for me.
I considered the cycle ride for 10 seconds and then remembered that I hate going up-hill, I'm terrified going downhill and I'm pretty scared of traffic so that wasn't going to work at all.
I decided on the swim because I can swim, but really only swim when I'm on holiday, or if I'm lucky enough to be staying in a swanky hotel (although 'swimming is often a euphemism for sitting in the sauna and jacuzzi..)
Tackling 16km (640 lengths) of the local swimming pool WILL be a huge challenge because;
a) due to covid you have to pre-book a swim, arrive in your cossie ready to go and each session is only 50 minutes long (and I can only do a very sedate, head-out-of-the-water breast-stroke)
b) It's the municipal pool!!!
So please, every ££££ I raise will raise my spirits and motivate me to get the task done within the 30 days.
Huge thanks and virtual hugs to all of you that support my challenge,
Annie xxxxx
