Story
ELHAP is a magical and unique charity. We believe
that it’s every child’s birth right to play adventurously. Since 1976,
we have been providing adventure and nature play opportunities to
children and young people with disabilities and complex
support needs, from across Northeast London and Essex. Set in a
five-acre woodland site, ELHAP has the biggest specialist adventure
playground in the country.
Our Playworkers facilitate an average of 6,000
visits each year, during which our beneficiaries get the chance to “just
be kids”. They can fly on zip wires, get muddy, cook over a fire, build
dens, go on bug hunts, and take part in art,
yoga, dance, drama and horticulture workshops. We also work with
adults, helping them develop skills, connect with the local community,
and explore their future options.
We remove the barriers to being able to play
freely. Attendance at our sessions has a huge impact. As well as helping to improve the physical and mental well-being of our beneficiaries, we provide vital respite to families and carers.
