Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am running the British 10k on Sunday 11th July to raise funds for Anchor House, based in Canning Town in the London borough of Newham, one of the most deprived areas in London and the UK. In the early 1960s Anchor House was a hostel for seamen but since the closure of the London docks it now serves the local community providing accommodation and support for single homeless and jobless people.
In recent years Anchor House has launched a capital appeal to transform itself into an inspiring state-of-the-art 21st century building, at an estimated cost of £15m. This is a flagship development which will leave a lasting legacy in keeping with the Olympic 2012 strategy for regeneration of the East End. £6m has been secured already through grants and a land development scheme. Anchor House's award winning Aspirations Programme is a multi-tiered, holistic programme tailored to the individual needs of each tenant which will help them find their feet again, regain confidence and self esteem and help them return to independent living and employment. The Aspirations Programme addresses the root causes of homelessness - deprivation, addiction, crime and lack of skills. To find out more go to www.anchorhouseuk.org
