Story
My son Jake chose to leave us in 2018 , aged just 20, after a battle with mental health problems. He knew this would hurt those left behind but his pain was greater. No one should have to face the anguish of mental health problems. Or the devastation left behind when it become too much to bear. MIND can help people face the challenges and give someone a chance. It’s got to be worth a try.
When I heard of this event, I knew I had to sign up. Jake loved Whitby. His Duke of Edinburgh’s silver expedition was pretty much the same route. I’ve a scarily numbered birthday coming up and thought if I’m going to take on an endurance challenge, now is the time, and this is the place.
Due to the 'unprecedented times' created by Covid-19 the original Whitby event was postponed twice in 2020, and has now been rescheduled for June 2021, along Hadrian's Wall. Another of Jake's DofE expeditions was in the same area, so there's still a connection!
Any donation, however small, will, I’m sure, be put to good use by MIND.
With the help of the staff, customers and artists of The Braithwaite Gallery, an amazing amount has already been raised for Mind. Special thanks must go to artist Sam Toft, who created 'A Picture for Jake' especially for this fundraiser.
This new page links to the official Mind event. All donations from the June page have been transferred to this page.
THANK YOU for your support.
