Raising Funds for the latest keyhole equipment for Bowel Cancer and Related Conditions at both Grimsby and Scunthorpe Hospital

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.

As many of you will know I work with the skilled bowel surgeons who are going to be using this fantastic equipment which we are going to buy. I can remember when all surgery was done through a large incision in the persons abdomen, people stayed in hospital for weeks on end depending on the type of surgery that they had, even something as simple as a hernia repair meant  a stay in hospital for a least  a week often longer and if you were unlucky enough to need  a major bowel operation for cancer or other bowel condition like colitis you could be in hospital for anything up to a month.

Now with the advent of better anaesthetics and improved surgical techniques all surgical stays are less than they were 30 years ago. Laparoscopic (keyhole surgery has been about for a long time now, but like all technology there are new innovations and improved resolution making visualisation during the surgery better. We all appreciate new technology with television, telephones , smart phones, computers, tablets, mac books and numerous other technological developments, that make life easier for us  why would we want to be behind with healthcare.

I have seen how much more quickly people get up and about after keyhole surgery, they have very small scars, are less likely to get wound infections, have less pain and return to their normal activity a lot faster. Because of this they will usually feel better able to face any further treatments that they may need, it makes future surgery easy as there is less internal and external scarring.

We are so lucky in this area to have such dedicated surgeons who want to work with this technology, and i have watched the amount of keyhole surgery increase over the years, so that now most patients are offered the opportunity to have their bowel surgery in this way.

So the reason why I am braving that high flying sky dive is to let all of those people who will need laparoscopic surgery in the future have the best equipment available for what i think is a fantastic surgical team that includes all of the surgeons, anaesthetist , theatre staff,, and ward staff.

If I needed surgery I would want the best, and  hope that by jumping out of  a plane I will be able to help raise some of the much needed funds to purchase this equipment. , for those who do,
