Thanks for visiting our Loopy Lakeland Adventure page
WE HAVE DONE IT! We cycled, canoed and ran in a big loop from and to Keswick via Ullswater and Helvellyn without any major mishaps.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Western Nepal Disability Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor us now!
So what are we doing that merits people supporting us?
Saturday: We aim to start in Keswick and the first group will travel by bike to the northeast head of Ullswater via the old railway and then cut across the landscape via a couple of steep rural roads, about 18 miles. Some of the team will be hampered by bike trailers as some of the kids will be taking part. The next stage of the day involves negotiating the length of Ullswater from Pooley Bridge to Glenridding (8 miles) in canoes with some of the land based crew cycling on the A592 along the edge of the lake keeping an eye on the water team. At the end of the lake we will probably wet our whistle before heading up to the Youth Hostel again for the night for a well earned shower and feast.
On Sunday a small team will head up the massif of Helvellyn itself and run over to Thirlmere (a distance of about 7 miles and gaining a height of nearly 1000m (950m) where the next team will canoe up Thirlmere or cycle back up to Keswick (about 9 miles in total) to complete the loop.
Who is part of the team? Anna, Mic, Finn and Corrie Mayhew – Pete and Corinne and Sophie Goulston and Harri Cheesbrough. We are in a variety of stages of fitness but are all making an effort to get fitter so we can put on a good effort in May.
