In a typical year, monsoon season brings approximately 4 cycles of heavy downpours, and is always a time fraught with peril for Pakistan. Longstanding poverty, and the aftermath of previous flooding, has left the people critically vulnerable to flood disasters and endangered their safety. 

But this monsoon season is different. Instead of the usual river flooding, monstrous rains have now also caused urban flooding, flash floods, and severe inundations due to glacier burst. Regions across the country have been hit with three to five times more rainfall than normal.
