Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

Last year it was Paris . Everything was going to work out fine, I had done some training in between moving countries and vacationing in Mexico.

On the Friday night prior to the race, I walked into my friend's house in the centre of Paris to find a bunch of musicians jamming. They were throwing a party (partly) in my honour, on Saturday night. 'What shall I wear?' was my first thought.

After spending the night in a random hotel and having woken up at 4.00 to eat a baguette, very disgusting but apparently that's what you do to avoid cueing up to use the portable loos, I got up around 6 am to make my way down to the Champs-Elysées.

So, I find a couple of Mexico City girls wearing a cute and very pink top with MEXICO in capital block letters printed across the back. How Nice.

I said 'Hi'. They checked me out; I was wearing a dark blue unisex rainforest foundation top.

‘Hi there. Why Paris ?’ They replied.

'I live in Edinburgh ' to which they said, slowly and in unison

'Did you marry a scot'?

I ended up running (jogging very slowly) on my own for the whole 26 miles so. On mile 23 there was a stand with French guys giving away wine. The Bordeaux delegation, dressed in a full on traditional outfit, all smiles and friendliness.

When going through the finish line, I put my hands up in the air, as recommended by my chief advisor, and smiled at the cameras. The flashes didn't go off but I felt elated.

I walked the steps of the metro backwards and jumped on a train to go home.  Apparently my friends had been waiting for me to go past Notre Dame, with some vodka shots at hand.

This year I'm staying with a friend who will be heavily pregnant.

Please donate to help halt deforestation and to preserve the homes of rainforest people, who are far off from proving themselves by trying to run marathons. They have other stuff to worry about such as ill advised forest and economic policy, but that’s another story.
