We provide family-based care for children to ensure every child has a loving family

Story

The invasion of Ukraine is a crisis on many fronts. For the 100,000 Ukrainian children currently confined to orphanages, and those at risk of separation from their families, it's a catastrophe. Jewels for Ukraine is supporting Hope and Homes for Children's work to prioritise the most vulnerable children.

Jewels for Ukraine gives you the chance to win one-of-a-kind pieces of jewellery, crafted by world-renowned designers, made with beautiful stones kindly donated by the Cruzeiro Mine in Brazil. Because the jewellers have generously donated their time, materials, crafts, gold, diamonds and more for the cause, every penny raised through the raffle will go towards the work of Hope and Homes for Children.

About Hope and Homes for Children

Orphanages harm children.

The majority of those who experience life inside an orphanage suffer violence, abuse, and neglect.

The shocking truth is that these are almost always children who have, or could have, a family to look after them. To love them. But every day, a broken system puts pressure on parents to give up their children.

Today, over 5.4 million children are trapped within institutions. It's not right and it must stop. Children deserve so much better. Always.

Born out of the Balkans conflict 30 years ago, Hope and Homes for Children has championed the vital importance of family and
community-based care of children and our teams are on the ground in Ukraine, Moldova and Romania to ensure this war does not rob children of the love and protection they need now more than ever.

The invasion of Ukraine is a crisis on many fronts. Our primary concern right now is for the safety of the country's children, most
immediately, for the 100,000 children confined in 700 orphanages across the country, the unseen victims of this conflict, and the children at risk of being separated from their families.

In Ukraine, our usual work has been severely curtailed by the violence and security risks. But our teams continue to do what they can to
support vulnerable children and their families. Our team are providing
practical, life-saving support for children and vulnerable families.

In Moldova and Romania, we are working with partner agencies and local authorities to support the refugees crossing the border from Ukraine. We are also advocating at a global level for those children vulnerable to exploitation and trafficking to ensure they do not get lost or placed in dangerous orphanages. And as they urgently work to meet the immediate needs of the refugee crisis, they continue to provide support for families at risk of separation across the region.

Orphanages do not protect children. They harm them. We are working towards a day when every child can grow up in a loving family. There are millions of children across the world confined to loveless orphanages. Over 80% of them are not orphans. It doesn’t have to be this way.
