Fireflies have landed in NYC!
This is our inaugural ride for Fireflies NYC! We're raising money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. We are trying to raise $1,000/person, but I think we can do better!
On September 10th, eight of us will be starting a 550 mile bike ride from Niagara Falls to New York City with Fireflies NYC. It's a six day ride taking us through the Finger Lakes, Catskills and down back to the familiar 9W to NYC on Friday, September 15th!

Last summer, Jeff, Murray, and Bugs did a recon ride where Jeff and Murray rode around trying to figure out routes while Bugs played golf in various areas of NYS. This year some of us who have done the West Coast ride (a few of us- not me- have done the Alps ride!) decided to start an East Coast ride. Bugs will be coming this year to drive one of the two support vehicles- maybe not playing so many rounds of golf.
As a group, we have been riding on the weekends, or before work during the week in Prospect Park or on occassion Central Park. We all have odd schedules working in Advertising, mostly in Post Production, but we all made things work out for this ride!
All the riders are responsible for paying for transportation to Niagara Falls, accommodations and sustenance for the ride and for the support crew who take time off with vacation time to volunteer driving support vehicles and our belongings to the next night's accommodations.
The Fireflies group was originally started in UK (aka The Fireflies Tour), to raise money to fund blood cancer research. A group of five cyclists and an organizer started a charity ride from Lake Geneva to Cannes taking a ride through The Alps.
Ten years ago, a group of advertising professionals on the West Coast decided to start their own ride from SF to LA to benefit the City of Hope! Ten years ago!
If you cannot give a monetary donation, feel free to reach out with words of encouragement! The first three days will be 100 miles each day... with hurricane season on the East coast, it could be an interesting ride!
