Story
Hello everyone,
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
At the beginning of June this year two of my closest friends had to go through every parent's worst nightmare. Due to their courage and the bravery of Bella their daughter I wanted to do something to contribute to one of the charities which played a part in saving her life. Here is Isabella Saker's story:
One Thursday evening after a couple of days of being under the weather, Bella went to bed as normal but an hour later Grant went to check on her after hearing a horrible noise and found her unresponsive. She was taken by car to the hospital which luckily was just 2 minutes from Lucy's parents house where they were staying at the time. After assessment at Ipswich A&E she was taken to intensive care. She was then transferred by specialist amblance to Addenbrokes in Cambridge. It was here that they established that Bella had been born with a heart condition. The veins which attach the lungs to the heart were in the wrong place. Addenbrokes don't do heart surgery so she had to be airlifted by Yorkshire Air Ambulance to Leeds where she underwent open heart surgery. Bella spent a week here at first in intensive care and then onto the normal ward as she was making excellent progress.
Bella is now making an amazing recovery and doing extremely well.
When Lucy told me the story I realised that when Bella was airlifted Lucy and Grant were not allowed in the helicopter because of health and safety. I can't possibly imagine what they went through when passing over their daughter to the ambulance crew and then having to be driven up to Leeds in the car by Lucy's Dad which took over 5 hours.
It is for this reason that I have chosen this charity as Lucy and Grant put the life of their daughter in their wonderful hands and without them I may be telling a very different story.
I am so proud of my friends and of course Bella, their strength and courage is inspiration to us all.
